1. GENERAL INFORMATION

Only double rooms available.

SU offers accommodation for incoming students in the Student Dormitory Campus, located in the Student Town district at Sofia. The dormitories are located in a different area than most of the University buildings. Easily could be reached by public transportation. The dormitories are located in a specific area of the city with high concentration of dormitory facilities of most of the different universities in Sofia. For that reason the district is called Student Town.

Only accommodation is available but there are several University Canteens in Sofia, located: in the main University building, near the dormitories in the Student Town, near another University building.

The monthly price for accommodation in a double (shared) room is approx. 60-80€ (approx. 120-160 BGN) including utilities such as water, central heating and electricity.

Approximate number: 150 exchange students per year (IRO has no information on foreign students enrolled for a full degree at SU that are accommodated in the student dormitories).

Voluntary organizations such as ESN or Student Council help exchange students that do not want to use the University dormitories to find other options for accommodation. ESN and Student Council can only recommend trusted websites, agencies or specific groups in social media where students could find themselves accommodation.

2. REGULATIONS - DOCUMENTS

For staying at the University dormitories - students sign a document (not specifically a contract) that confirms they are informed about the rules for staying at the dormitory and includes their rights and obligations. For accommodations offered on the private market - rent contract has to be signed.

ID/Passport required for all types of accommodation. For staying at the University dormitory: the document includes the student personal data, period of stay, rights and obligations - very basic document.

3. APPLICATION PROCESS

No minimum period. Maximum period - accommodation at the University dormitories for exchange students is possible only during the semester (including exam period), i.e. for the period that the student is accepted as an exchange student at SU. Short-stay options are possible with a specific request to the IRO.

Two deadlines for application: for winter semester - 15 June, for summer semester - 15 November.

Students have to pay for their stay at the University dormitory security deposit (one monthly rent) that is refundable at the end of stay and semester fee (10 BGN) that is paid by all students, nonrefundable.

Cancellation is possible at any time. In case the students have been accommodated for some period before the cancellation they have to pay all bills before leaving the dormitory. In case the students have not been accommodated but only had a reserved place the cancellation has to be done in 2-3 weeks at latest after the start of the semester by informing the IRO.


4. QUALITY ASSESSMENT

SU only offers accommodation at the University dormitories.

The Accommodation Commission and the Social and Public Services Department are responsible for any quality control.


5. CITY / UNIVERSITY AREA INFO

Student dormitory campus is located in a specific area of the city - Student Town.

The area where the dormitories are located. In this area there are also other universities dormitories, several other universities are also located there, and many cafeterias, restaurants, shops, clubs, sports facilities. For private accommodation choices students prefer the city center.

The student dormitories are located in approx. 6 km from the main University building (most of the faculties are located throughout the city however).

6. COVID

Student dormitories do not offer conditions for self-isolation and quarantine in case of possible anti-epidemic measures on a local and/or national level. In such situations the shared kitchenettes are being closed.
